Stocks discussed: (NasdaqGS:NICE) (NYSE:SAN) (NasdaqGS:NUAN)

NICE Ltd. (NasdaqGS:NICE) has released research done in collaboration with Prof. Dan Ariely that reveals the positive impact of intelligent software robots on employee morale and performance. Ariely, who is the James B. Duke Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics and is the founder of The Center for Advanced Hindsight, said:

“Automation can empower employees and reduce errors, when applied correctly. There is a significant opportunity to leverage robotics as a tool to improve our work and make our workplaces more engaging and creative. When we create a collaborative relationship that plays to the different strengths of humans and robots, everyone benefits.”

Santander (NYSE:SAN) is leveraging AI-powered voice biometrics technology from Nuance Communications, Inc. (NasdaqGS:NUAN) to improve the security and customer experience of banking on the phone. Customers are asked to repeat a phrase several times to create a “voiceprint”, allowing the software will recognize them in future calls. Brett Beranek, General Manager, Security Business, Nuance Enterprise, commented:

“We see PINs and passwords continuing to fail - and hacks and breaches climbing. With that, more and more organizations are deploying biometrics to enable a simpler and safer way for customers to validate their identities and access services. We are proud to see Santander leveraging Nuance technology to safeguard financial and personal information in today’s digital society.”

Toyota AI Ventures Launches $100 Million ‘Fund II’ to Invest in Robotics and Autonomous Technology

TechCrunch reports that Toyota AI Ventures, which is a subsidiary of Toyota Research Institute, is launching a $100 million fund to invest in early-stage robotics and autonomous technology startups. This is the second fund from the firm, called Fund II, and will bring total assets to $200 million. Jim Adler, managing director of Toyota AI Ventures, said:

“One of the things that we want to explore with Fund II is the unbundling of mobility. The personally-owned vehicle has provided tremendous safety, freedom, convenience, and fun. What we’re now seeing is a phase of unbundling such as ride hailing, micromobility, etc. There are investment opportunities where autonomous technologies might accelerate these unbundled mobility products and services.”
