9 Security Gadgets for Mobile Devices
If
you use your smartphone or tablet for work, you need to keep your data secure
when you’re on the go. We look at nine gadgets that try to keep your important
data out of the hands of others.
Careful
online shoppers often use temporary, disposable credit-card numbers to protect themselves from identity theft
and other dangers. The Wocket brings a similar concept to your pocket,
replacing all your existing credit cards with a single card (called the
WocketCard) that resets every time you use it. The idea: To provide the most secure
wallet you can carry. The Wocket is a pocket-size (3.5 x 2.75 x 0.4 in.)
electronic vault that stores all the numbers and other info from your
bankcards, as well as from loyalty and membership cards. Whenever you need to
actually hand a physical card to, say, a clerk or waiter, you just slip the
WocketCard into the Wocket. It only takes a few taps for you to code the card
to whatever (Amex, Costco, etc.) you need it to be. And the Wocket wallet
itself is biometrically coded to your voice, so there's no risk of compromise
if it gets lost or stolen.

Wallets Puts a Spin on Mobile Payments
Smart
wallets begin gaining momentum among mobile consumers
With
mobile payments becoming more popular, the need for smart wallets is
increasing. These mobile applications are designed to function as digital
counterparts to physical wallets or pocketbooks. They store personal
information, such as the data associated with a debit or credit card. They can
also store information provided by retailers, like loyalty cards that offer
rewards. Smart wallets are, however, more compact and efficient at keeping
track of important information.
NXT-ID,
a biometric technology company, has announced the launch of its new smart
wallet, called Wocket. The wallet is somewhat different than conventional
mobile wallets in that it is actually a physical product and not an
application. Wocket is designed with security in mind, as well, featuring the
ability to protect a users identity and replace all payment cards. The wallet
will be accepted anywhere that already accepts credit card transactions, making
it a potential competitor for other mobile payments platforms.
Wocket
is a new take on the mobile wallet, which could be a boon for NXT-ID. There are
many mobile wallets that exist in the mobile payments space, but relatively few
of these platforms have yet become popular with consumers. Moreover, these
platforms require a smartphone to use, whereas Wocket is a standalone product
that can be used by anyone.

Welcome to the World of Gadget Commerce
The concept of mobile commerce, or at least mobile
payments, has been relatively straightforward, with various twists. At the core, a person uses their mobile phone
to pay for something, like in a store, by tapping their phone to a check-out
terminal or flashing a code on the screen. But increasingly, more things are being used to buy things.
There are other devices being introduced for
non-phone payments. The Wocket smart wallet, which just started initial
shipping, is essentially a case that comes with a card inside. The card looks
and acts like a credit card and once the consumer’s identification is verified
via biometrics and PIN number, a tap on the screen is used to select which
credit card it becomes. After use,
the card is put back into the wallet and becomes
neutral again.
